Hermosa Beach

Hermosa Beach offers beaches that are extraordinary and NOT overcrowded. The sand is soft and clean, the beaches among the deepest you’ll find anywhere and the community? Well, Hermosa Beach may not be as “on the edge” as Venice Beach nor as formal as Manhattan Beach but it is an ideal blend of the two. Restaurants run the gamut from cheesesteak and pizza joints to more formal and upscale eateries. There are lots of bars and clubs with live music; there’s thew world-famous Comedy and Magic Club, one block from the beach, featuring the best standup talent in the business 7 nights a week, including Jay Leno on most Sunday nights. Hermosa is the site for a number of national level Volley Ballcompetitions and you can see the pros practicing throughout the year on some of the dozens upon dozens of Volley Ball courts permanently available to the public on a first come first serve basis.

The weather is typical Southern California beach weather: cool in the mornings and evenings and warm in the daytime; almost never hot. (If you like hot, go to The San Fernando Valley or The Dessert.)

The public schools are outstanding: Hermosa Beach City School District. The elementary school system in Hermosa Beach runs from pre-K through grade 8 and is among the highest rated in the State. Since there is no high school in Hermosa Beach families get to choose either Redondo Beach Union or the other award-winning public high school in the South Bay, Mira Costa in Manhattan Beach.

There is more to do in Hermosa Beach than anyone could sample in a lifetime: jogging or biking on The Strand, strolling the beach, surfing, boating, SCUBA trips, lots of entertainment choices, a reasonable drive to
Hollywood and West LA, a number of different charitable events, several Community Center sponsored activities including Volley Ball lessons and pickup teams, courses in the arts, tons of activities for the kids, a Lawn Bowling group, a weekly Farmer’s Market, community theater, an annual Art Walk and more. Check out the link to the City of Hermosa Beach website for more information.

Hermosa Beach is a great place to raise a family, and yet you should also know that it is a younger community than most, with roughly 60% of its residents being single and in their 20s, so weekends can get a little noisy around The Pier.

In terms of housing, there’s an eclectic mix of architecture. Many of the homes in Hermosa have roof top decks (with a thirty foot height restriction), that afford a variety of views of either the beach or the city itself. Although there are a few condominiums priced in the $500k to $750k range, town home prices range from just under $1M to the $2M range, depending on location. Single Family homes range from the mid $1-2M range to well above $10M.
